Ily in the City

Something Blooms in the Horizon

On my way to work this morning I noticed the old Hammers sign (Hammerjacks for out-of-towners) was replaced with Bourbon Street. Not really sure what that is, and from checking the net (yeah, I have work to do but I rather do this) I haven’t been able to uncover anything promising; however I’ll keep looking.

What I did find was the site Baltimoregrows.com somewhat similar to what I dobut more B-More specific.

Check out his post on Bourbon Street Live.

Not sure if plans have changed for the venue seeing that the sign doesn’t include “Live”, hopefully they’ve opted to add a new club to the B-More scene. Like the author of that blog, I feel that under the right guidance Baltimore has the potential to be a booming city; but with old money, corrupt politicians, a heavy drug game, high crime, and low economy; it just can’t find its niche.

Yeah, I know a new club isn’t really the answer to all B-Mores’ problems, but I guarantee it could help. People, young people need a reason to want to come here, and want to stay here. But when young people do come into Baltimore, the general perception is “there’s nothing to do here” (hopefully, my site will change that). Honestly, Baltimore shuts down way too early . I have an assumption as to why this was put in effect, but that is the overall problem with night life and “day life,” if there’s such a thing in Baltimore. Downtown Baltimore shuts down around 6pm -7pm depending on where you go, and don’t let it be a Sunday, 5pm. Why? The city CAN’T and SHOULDN’T be that boring. I assume that the idea behind it is that having things open later would elevate the crime rate, but let’s be honest, it’s not like locking things down earlier has reduced the crime rate, all that much. At least if things are open, money can be made to some extent.

Unfortunately, I’m not gonna rag on and on about how to save, help, or reconstruct Baltimore; that’ll come as the site grows. I am gonna say, if Baltimore had a better, reputable night life it would bring in celebrities and young folks alike.
